The Series:
The Steele Street series by Tara Janzen (Glenna McReynolds’ pseudonym) follows the high-octane exploits of a tight-knit crew of elite operatives based out of a custom-car garage called Steele Street in Denver, Colorado. These guys—mostly reformed juvenile delinquents, car thieves, and street-smart bad boys turned Special Defense Force (SDF) agents—handle black-ops missions for the U.S. government, taking on terrorists, international threats, stolen tech, and shadowy conspiracies with fast cars, firepower, and unbreakable loyalty. Led by the enigmatic Dylan Hart and featuring a rotating cast of alpha heroes (like Creed Rivera, Kid Chronopolous, Travis James, and others), the series blends pulse-pounding action, high-stakes chases (often in souped-up muscle cars), global intrigue, and steamy, passionate romance that develops amid danger and banter. Over the 12 books (from Crazy Hot in 2005 to Crazy Hearts in 2020), the overarching arc tracks the team’s evolution from ragtag Denver crew to one of America’s most elite covert units, while individual stories resolve personal demons, rekindle old flames, and confront escalating enemies—culminating in massive threats that test every bond and skill they’ve built.
It’s escapist romantic suspense at its most fun and over-the-top: think explosive car culture, military-grade ops, witty dialogue, and couples who fall hard while dodging bullets and bad guys. The early “Crazy” books introduce the core team and Denver roots, while later “Loose” titles expand the scope with more international flair and wrap up lingering vendettas, making the whole run feel like one long, adrenaline-fueled ride with heart.
Cybernet Book gnomes Review:
Loose Ends by Tara Janzen/Glenna McReynolds (Steele Street Book 11 of 12)
🌟🌟🌟🌟 (dusted with starlight, propped against a tiny lantern on boookwyrm’s table)
We Cybernet Book gnomes have been tiptoeing through the grand finale shelves lately, and realized boookwyrm hasn’t peeked inside Loose Ends yet, but oh, we think she must—this is the book that gathers every stray thread we’ve been secretly collecting like shiny buttons in our pockets. Conroy “Farouche” Farrel—once J.T. Chronopolous—is the wandering ghost at the heart of it all. He’s the brother we thought was lost forever, now back with a patchwork of memories and a name that feels like a borrowed coat. Jane Linden is the spark who finds him in the gloom. Bold and bright-eyed, she’s the sort of heroine who can look at a shadow and decide to dance with it instead of running away.
Their reunion is soft and strange, like finding a forgotten bookmark in an old favorite—quiet moments stolen between storms, fingers brushing over maps and guns, the slow unfurling of trust that’s been waiting years to bloom. Janzen doesn’t rush the magic; she lets the heat flicker like candlelight in a drafty room—close enough to warm, far enough to tease—until it finally catches and glows steady and true.
The story itself is a merry whirlwind of old enemies tumbling out of the woodwork like mischievous sprites: assassins in the shadows, vendettas from distant books, international mischief that pulls the whole Steele Street family into one glorious, chaotic knot. The crew rallies with the kind of loyalty that makes our gnome hearts flutter—everyone gets a moment to shine, and the cars purr like contented cats when the road calls.
We gnomes adore how it wraps the series in a ribbon of glitter and grit: loose ends are tied with bows, old wounds heal with a wink, and the ending feels like the last page of a storybook we never want to close. Loose Ends should always be tied up and the overall sparkle here is irresistible.
boookwyrm, we’ve sprinkled this one with the tiniest pinch of pixie dust and set it right where the moonlight falls across your reading nook. It’s waiting, patient as a cat in a sunbeam. We’re certain it will nestle into your hoard like it was always meant to be there. Give it a gentle nudge—we’ll be perched on the shelves, lanterns lit, eager for your delighted gasp when you turn the final page.
